What is the difference between CBD & Marijuana?

October 11, 2018

CBD

The supplement cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, has received a lot of attention in the last five years. Preclinical research of CBD for children afflicted with severe health issues like epilepsy and the scientific discovery of the Endocannabinoid system in the body have prompted the scientific community to look more closely at the benefits of CBD while legislators grapple with what this product is and is not.

In December 2017, The World Health Organization's Expert Committee on Drug Dependence made a statement saying that CBD (cannabidiol) was not an addictive chemical. A limited number of preclinical studies even suggest that the therapeutic properties in CBD may benefit those afflicted with addiction issues. The same species but...

Marijuana and Hemp are two varieties of the plant species Cannabis. The term Cannabis creates distress because many people automatically think of Marijuana. Hemp and Marijuana share the same species but their chemical makeup is very different.

Hemp

Hemp is an agricultural crop often called industrial hemp. The hemp plant is one of the most versatile of all plants. It is cultivated for thousands of different products including: textiles, household products, insulation, packaging, flooring, fuel, as an absorbent for environmental spills, cosmetics, soap and more recently as the supplement CBD. In the food industry (both for humans and animals) it is found desirable due to the high percentage of essential fatty acids rich in Omega 3 and 6.

Hemp plants contain a high level of cannabidiol (CBD) and about 100 other chemicals including trace levels of THC (0.3% or less is the legal limit). Some manufacturers including Blue Moon (our source) remove up to 0.0001. This is considered a non-detectable amount of THC. The dietary supplement CBD is not a drug so there is no such thing as a drug test for CBD.

Marijuana

Marijuana contains low levels of CBD and high levels of THC. Marijuana is a horticultural crop. The flowering part of the plant is rich in THC. It is used for recreational and restricted medicinal use in some U.S. States.

Integrative Healing Institute® sells CBD oil that is grown in Kentucky under a federally approved program authorized under Section 7606 of the 2014 Farm Bill. CBD Oil sourced from hemp is legal when sold as a dietary supplement.

The cultivars contain the highest levels of CBD without any pesticides, heavy metals or toxins. Blue Moon products are also considered raw, vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO, soy free, nut free, and free of artificial coloring and flavoring.

A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is available on the Blue Moon CBD Resources page which provides a certified Lab Result of our product. Because our CBD is hemp-derived, it is available in all 50 states and over 45 countries.
